"The boat I'm looking at purchasing is not very expensive so it doesn't make sense to spend the money on a full survey."
We hear this often and understand it's hard to justify spending a significant percentage of the boat's sale price on a survey. Like buying a used car or purchasing a pre-owned home, it is important to have an inspection performed before purchasing a non-warrantied boat. A VR Marine Pre-Purchase Inspection not only provides peace of mind but also allows for negotiating power.
Benefits:
WE INSPECT THE BOAT
VR Marine sets up an appointment to inspect the boat. The inspector will go directly to the boat to perform the inspection.
RECEIVE YOUR REPORT
VR Marine will send the completed report electronically to your email.
Engine - How an engine looks can offer valuable clues about its overall condition. We check for leaks, excessive rust, broken or missing components, fluid levels, and other signs of neglect.
Decks - Inspect the decks for cracks and soft spots, failed caulking, and deck-mounted hardware (cleats, lifeline stanchions, winches, etc.).
Standing Rigging - Visual inspection of turnbuckles, cotter pins, and terminal ends. Inspect for kinks, flat spots, and corrosion, particularly where the wire enters a swage fitting. Check for signs of fatigue, cracks, and corrosion.
Running Rigging - We inspect all the running rigging for age, condition, and quality.
Chainplates - Visual inspection for issues such as movement, rust, and cracks.
Electrical Systems - Inspect batteries. Operate and test electrical systems are running and performing as expected.
Sail Condition - Evaluate the entire sail inventory for age, condition, and quality.
Inspections are typically completed within three business days, depending on the inspector's schedule, the seller's schedule, and the weather. Reports are usually delivered the following morning that the inspection is done. Inspections that are completed on Friday will have the report reviewed on Monday morning. We do our best to complete inspections promptly as soon as the seller makes the boat available for inspection. Occasionally, the seller's schedule, the inspector's schedule, or the weather may cause a delay. Please note we cannot guarantee a date for an inspection due to factors outside our control. Customers are encouraged to plan accordingly and make arrangements to hold a boat if necessary.
If the boat sells before we get there, we will put your order on hold while you look for another. When you find another boat you'd like us to inspect, we'll transfer the details and send our inspector right away!
Absolutely! You don't need to be present while we do the inspection. Please call for details.
